National Cattlemen Beef Association members are concerned about a proposed amendment for the Senate farm bill that would reform checkoff programs. NCBA Senior Vice President of Government Affairs Colin Woodall says that measure comes from Senators who have no understanding of checkoffs or they work.
He says his group is opposed to any government interference with a needed producer program.
Woodall says besides the checkoff reform amendment, they’re also concerned while the Senate Ag Committee farm bill authorized a foot and mouth disease vaccine bank, it failed to provide any funding for it and that needs to be corrected.
Woodall is hopeful the Senate will pass their farm bill and that the House will also move forward so they can get their measures conferenced and approved this year.
