The National Cattlemen and Beef Association (NCBA) is opposing the Meat and Poultry Special Investigator Act of 2022, which was marked up by the House Agriculture Committee.  Tanner Beymer is the Senior Director of Government Affairs with the cattle organization, and says the action would create a new office within the USDA to investigate matters of the Packers and Stockyards Act.  Beymer says the Act is duplicating previously established oversight measures.  Both the Nebraska Cattlemen Association and the Iowa Cattlemen Association favor the Fischer-Grassley bill calling for more transparency with the major meat packers and the marketing of cattle.  However, the National Cattlemen and Beef Association is opposed to the bill.  Beymer says cattle producers should not get distracted with smaller issues and they need to keep their focus on the larger picture.  The NCBA official says cattle producers need to stand united to push back on those unhealthful and inadequate narratives.  He says the issue is more of a regional concern and not a national concern.
