President Joe Biden is scheduled to meet face to face with Japan’s Prime Minister and other Japanese officials next month in Washington D.C.
National Cattlemen’s Beef Association Senior Director of International Trade and Market Access Kent Bacus says this is a great opportunity for President Biden to solidify relationships with the Japanese on the current bilateral trade deal between the two countries.
Bacus was asked if this April meeting would be a good opportunity for the U.S. to talk to Japan about rejoining the former TPP now known as the Comprehensive Progressive Trans-Pacific Partnership. He says rejoining that will take time.
He thinks for the U.S. to be part of the CPTPP would be beneficial, the administration hasn’t indicated whether or not they want to pursue that at this time.
The President’s meeting with the Japanese leader is expected to take place in the first half of April.
