The United Kingdom is looking to join the Comprehensive and Progressive Trade Partnership and plans to begin formal negotiations this year. National Cattlemen’s Beef Association’s Vice President of International Trade and Market Access Kent Bacus says the U.S. is far ahead of trade negotiations with the U.K. than are the CPTPP countries.

He says despite the fact several countries are talking trade with each other the U.S. is in better shape on trade due to the size of our economy.

Bacus says having a pact with the U.K. gives U.S. negotiators an opportunity to address the need for science based trade rules.

The CPTPP contains all the countries that were in the TPP except for the United States which withdrew from being a part of that during the Trump administration.
