Snags are popping up in the Trans Atlantic trade talks between the United States and European Union. E.U. leaders have announced their unwillingness to eliminate tariffs on beef, pork and poultry. Their Trade Minister also says they will not change their legislation regarding beef hormones and the feed additive ractopamine. National Cattlemen’s Beef Association’s Vice President of Government Affairs Colin Woodall that’s a real problem for achieving a successful trade deal.
Woodall says for any serious resolution the E.U.. will have to bend on these and come to the table and not take such a hard stance even though it was expected.
U.S. negotiators believe that tariffs need to be eliminated on all products for a successful conclusion to the Trans Atlantic trade agreement.
