The Dietary Guidelines Advisory Committee will be issuing its recommendations on dietary guidelines next month. Every five years the Committee meets and sends their recommendations to the USDA and Health and Human Services. National Cattlemen’s Beef Association’s Executive Director of Government Affairs Danielle Beck says this year’s committee did a better job of following sound science in developing these guidelines.

She says the committee used great nutritional data in formulating their recommendations and for the first time focused on younger people and their dietary and nutritional needs.

Beck says through the beef checkoff, cattle producers submitted comments on the guidelines and made their voices heard on the importance of beef in a healthy diet.

The total report from the Dietary Guidelines Advisory Committee is 835 pages in length and included recommendations for children ages 12 to 24 months.
