President Donald Trump is expected to sign a beef quota agreement soon with the European Union. The National Cattlemen’s Beef Association is hailing the deal which will allow some hormone free U.S. beef into that market. Senior Vice President of Government Affairs Colin Woodall says it’s a huge victory.
He says earlier the Europeans had allowed a quota of U.S. beef in, but then other countries sought that same deal. Woodall says then the U.S. fought for an exclusive agreement.
Woodall says while this is a good first step, follow through needs to be done to get the E.U. to totally eliminate its hormone free beef ban.
Woodall says they’re also hopeful that eventually an overall Free Trade Agreement will be worked out with the European Union, however agriculture will need to be part of that. So far, the E.U. has balked at that.
