Results of a five year study done by USDA’s Agricultural Research Service shows cattle make up only 3.3 percent of total U.S. greenhouse gas emissions and have a positive effect on the environment. National Cattlemen’s Beef Association’s Environmental Counsel Scott Yager says this research shows what NCBA has been saying about cattle production.
He says the ARS study contrasts greatly with what the Green New Deal is claiming in blaming cattle production for greenhouse emission problems with their flatulence.
Yager says beef cattle can have a part in solutions to climate change.
The ARS study covered over 2200 surveys in a seven state cattle producing region. It contrasted cattle making up only 3.3 percent of greenhouse gas emissions compared with transportation and electricity generation accounting for 50 percent of all emissions and agriculture overall accounting for 9 percent.
