United States Trade Representative Robert Lighthizer told a Senate committee last week, the remake of the North American Free Trade Agreement could be finalized soon. National Cattlemen’s Beef Association’s Senior Vice President of Government Affairs Colin Woodall says that’s surprising but very positive
He says there’s a possibility the NAFTA remake could be completed yet this fall.
Woodall says the NAFTA deal takes on added importance given the lack of any bilateral deals achieved by the U.S. and the current trade war causing major market disruptions.
Woodall says hopefully having a positive agreement through the NAFTA remake with Canada and Mexico will mitigate the downward price pressure on cattle caused by the tariff impacts on pork.
