Agriculture Secretary Sonny Perdue says the top trade target now for U.S. negotiators needs to be a bilateral deal with Japan. National Cattlemen’s Beef Association President Craig Uden agrees and says that type of agreement is critical in achieving market access and dealing with current high tariffs.

He says getting a bilateral agreement with Japan is needed soon.

Uden says another thing that would help advance trade is getting all the appointments approved at USDA and particularly the Chief Ag Trade Negotiator.

Uden says U.S. agriculture and the beef industry has benefitted hugely from trade this year and it only makes sense to move ahead with an agreement involving the number one beef customer, Japan.
