Friday, the 2015 Dietary Guidelines Advisory Committee submitted their recommendations to USDA and Health and Human Services. National Cattlemen’s Beef Association’s Registered Dietician and Nutrition Scientist Dr. Shalene McNeill calls the report inconsistent and says if it’s adopted will lead to conflicting dietary advice.
The public comment period on the guideline recommendations will be open for 45 days. McNeill says NCBA will weigh on with their thoughts and will also work with health professionals to register their comments.
McNeill says her group has been working on this issue for the past year and a half and will continue. She says the committee’s statement disregards the positive role of lean meat which is one of the most nutrient rich foods.
