The National Cattlemen’s Beef Association is concerned the Dietary Guidelines Advisory Committee intends to remove lean beef and reduce red meat consumption from healthful dietary patterns. NCBA Executive Director of Human Nutrition Shalene McNeill says this is the first time this type of recommendation is being proposed by the committee to go forward as a policy in 2015.
McNeill says scientific evidence has proven in the past and continues to prove that lean meat is an important part of a healthy diet.
McNeill says their next step is to work to try and convince the committee to change their recommendations, and to weigh in with USDA, other federal agencies and Congress on the importance of lean meat as part of that healthy diet.
