National Cattlemen’s Beef Association’s CEO Colin Woodall met recently with U.S. Trade Representative Katherine Tai to talk about issues critical to the beef industry. He says Tai comes into the role as Trade Ambassador with a tremendous amount of experience and background on trade issues across all spectrums but especially on agriculture.

He says NCBA wants Tai to focus on making sure China lives up to its trade commitments and also push forward for a trade pact with the United Kingdom.

Woodall says Tai understands that any re-enactment of mandatory country of origin labeling would lead to swift trade retaliation against the United States.

Should cool retaliation occur, Canada still has the authority to impose $1 billion in retaliation on the U.S.
