Tuesday’s NCAA announcement of future sites for national championship competition has some area cities rejoicing.
The Sioux Falls Sports Authority has announced that Sioux Falls has been chosen as the host for three National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Championships from 2018-2022.
The selections are highlighted by the 2018 NCAA Division I Men’s Hockey Regional that will be held on March 23-25 at the Denny Sanford PREMIER Center. The Sioux Falls Sports Authority will host this event in conjunction with the University of North Dakota and the Denny Sanford PREMIER Center.
The Sioux Falls Sports Authority was also awarded the 2020 Division II Wrestling Championships and the 2020 Division II Women’s Volleyball Championships.
Omaha will host first- and second-round games in the NCAA Division I men’s basketball tournament and the Division I women’s volleyball final four in 2020.
The Twin Cities collected a big haul with the University of Minnesota as the host institution. Target Center will have men’s basketball regional semifinals and a regional final in 2021, two years after U.S. Bank Stadium hosts the Final Four.
The soon-to-be-remodeled home of the Timberwolves will also host the women’s volleyball championship in 2018. And the wrestling championships will be held at the recently opened Vikings stadium in 2020, the first non-arena venue for the event.
The Frozen Four for both men’s and women’s hockey will also be in Minnesota in 2018.
