House Agriculture Committee Chairman Collin Peterson of Minnesota included a provision in legislation passed by the House that sets a deadline of June 1 for annual small refinery exemption petitions from the Renewable Fuel Standard. Nebraska farmer Greg Anderson who’s a board director for the National Biodiesel Board says that’s a critically important measure needed for integrity and transparency of the RFS.

He says when RFS exemptions are granted it causes renewable fuel volumes to be lost so having a clear reporting of what is and isn’t allowed to be exempted must be known.

Anderson says this legislation provides certainty to the biodiesel and renewable fuels industries.

The Expanding Access to Sustainable Energy Act passed the House and Anderson expects it to get approved in the Senate as well.
