The U.S. Commerce Department has made a preliminary decision that biodiesel imports from Argentina and Indonesia have harmed U.S. biodiesel producers. National Biodiesel Board’s CEO Donnell Rehagen says the Commerce Department has placed countervailing duties on imports from both countries.
He says the U.S. Commerce Department also found critical circumstances occurred, which allows the U.S. to assess countervailing duties against Argentina retroactively.
Rehagen says the Commerce Department will collect the duties and place them in the federal treasury. He says while that won’t go to U.S. biodiesel producers directly, it will at least level the playing field.
Rehagen says in October the Commerce Department is expected to issue another preliminary ruling. That would be on any possible biodiesel dumping that may have occurred from Argentina and Indonesia into the U.S.
