The U.S. Department of Agriculture says exports of biodiesel are up 39 percent from a year ago. In May alone, biodiesel exports were up 60 percent. Nebraska grower Greg Anderson serves on the National Biodiesel Board. He says the numbers while they might not look that big represent a large percentage of a biodiesel plant’s output.
He says because Canada is the top customer of U.S. biodiesel exports it’s critical negotiators work out a positive remake to the North American Free Trade Agreement discussions.
Anderson says there’s been success with other markets for U.S. biodiesel such as South America and Europe.
Anderson says besides the export success for biodiesel, there’s increased demand for the fuel domestically.
