California has cleared the way for storing biodiesel blends of up to 20 percent in underground storage tanks. The National Biodiesel Board has been working for that approval for several years now. National Biodiesel Board Director Greg Anderson says the decision not only paves the way for more biodiesel use in California but should translate to more usage in other states.
He says the move by California on B20 also means more use of soybean oil which will bring great economic benefits for America’s soybean farmers.
Anderson says California’s been focused on improving their environmental footprint by reducing their carbon emissions. He says by approving more biodiesel, they’ve taken a great step forward in achieving that goal.
The California Air Resources Board says biodiesel reduces greenhouse gases by at least 50 percent and often by as much as 81 percent compared to petroleum.
