Leaders of the National Association of Wheat Growers are trying to help their growers plagued by depressed wheat prices. Wheat prices have tumbled to their lowest point in the last ten years. NAWG CEO Chandler Goule says because this latest ag economic downturn is likely to last for two to two and a half years they’re already prepping for the next farm bill.
He says they’re also working with Kansas Senator Jerry Moran in trying to get wheat included in international aid for developing countries.
Goule says it wouldn’t be wise to start writing the new farm bill right away although they are getting ready for the new legislation.
Goule says he’s already heard from wheat growers concerned that if something isn’t done to assist producers that by the next farm bill they won’t be in business.
