The National Association of Wheat Growers is closely watching the ag appropriations bill as part of the overall budget process that will soon play out in Congress. NAWG Legislative Director Josh Tonsager says they believe crop insurance may still be targeted for cuts as part of the House appropriations process.

Tonsager suggests that farmers also stay engaged with the ag funding bill as it moves in the Senate and be ready to defend this important risk management tool if necessary.

The other area that farm groups are supporting is additional dollars for agricultural research and for NAWG there is some targeted wheat research.

He says they also are asking for full funding for export programs such as the Market Access Program and Foreign Market Development program.
