A group of state elected officials from the Western United States are asking the USDA to include three classes of wheat in the Coronavirus Food Assistance program for pandemic relief. Those being hard red winter, soft white and soft red winter wheat. National Association of Wheat Growers CEO Chandler Goule says all wheat classes need to be included.
He says when CFAP came out it included 30 percent or less of the wheat grown in the United States.
Goule says NAWG will be weighing in with members of Congress hoping to get all wheat classes eligible for the next round of pandemic relief payments.
Goule says part of the problem with the first CFAP determination, is USDA figured the price for wheat during a short three day rise but that price dropped considerably after that and has not risen since.
