The National Association of Wheat Growers is weighing in with the incoming administration on their group’s agricultural priorities for 2021. NAWG Vice President of Policy and Communications Josh Tonsager says they have several areas they’re focusing on including trade, CRP and the Wildfire and Hurricanes Indemnity Program at USDA.

He says on the trade front they’re looking forward to working with Katherine Tai who’s been nominated to be the next U.S. Trade Representative.

Tonsager says they’re pleased the President Elect has chosen to put forth for nomination former Ag Secretary Tom Vilsack for his old position. He says Vilsack has great experience and would be great to work with on their issues.

Tonsager says as far as trade goes, U.S. wheat growers top markets include Mexico, the Philippines , Japan, South Korea, Nigeria, Taiwan, Indonesia and the European Union. In total the U.S. exported 26.3 million metric tons of wheat valued at over $6 billion.
