Major farm groups along with commodity and conservation organizations are calling on Congress to finish the farm bill this year. Among those is the National Association of Wheat Growers. NAWG President Jimmie Musick, an Oklahoma grower is hoping the final legislation gets approved yet this year.

He says new farm legislation is badly needed in order to give farm lenders certainty.

Musick says he doesn’t think conferees have that many differences to work out as both the House and Senate farm bills are rather similar. That gives him hope they’ll be able to craft a final measure this year.

House Ag Ranking member Collin Peterson of Minnesota says democratic leaders in the House want to get the farm bill completed this year.
