The U.S. House and Senate have passed the Grain Standards Reauthorization Act. National Association of Wheat Grower’s Vice President of Policy and Communication Josh Tonsager says the legislation is very important for wheat growers across the country.
He says the timing of having this measure passed is good because it will help U.S. wheat growers stay competitive for foreign markets.
Tonsager says an important component of the legislation is that it ensures the Federal Grain Inspection Service user fees are directed solely to inspection and weighing services.
One of the important changes to the legislation is that delegated state agencies are now required to notify users of official inspection or weighing services at least 72 hours in advance of any intent to discontinue such services.
