The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Farm Service Agency has announced it has finalized quality loss coverage in its Wildfire and Hurricane Indemnity Program Plus or WHIP Plus. National Association of Wheat Grower’s CEO Chandler Goule is pleased FSA chose to do that because it will provide assistance to wheat growers who suffered losses in the 2018 and 2019 crop years..
He says there are many growers who may have had high yields and yet experienced enough losses that crop insurance need to be triggered.
Goule says this additional funding in the WHIP Plus program will be very beneficial for growers in the Dakotas.
The funding for WHIP Plus was included as part of the fiscal year 2021 omnibus appropriations bill.
