Wheat growers are hailing USDA’s CFAP two program which had enrollment getting underway on Monday. National Association of Wheat Grower’s Vice President of Policy and Communications Josh Tonsager says they’re particularly pleased that all wheat classes are now included for assistance. He says South Dakota’s Congressional Delegation was instrumental in helping get that included.
Wheat, flat rate crops, eggs and some other commodities are expected to receive $2.5 billion or 18 percent of the CFAP 2 aid. Tonsager says that’s helpful for those growers hit hard by the pandemic.
He says the pandemic has also caused economic problems for U.S. wheat growers with their global markets as those customers have also suffered from the impacts of COVID 19.
Tonsager says the next step for NAWG is making sure Congress gets their budget approved even if it means a continuing resolution. He says its critical that proper funding is given to the USDA to provided needed agricultural programs.
