One of Presidential Candidate Donald Trump’s ag advisors suggested recently that the farm bill needs revamping because it was negotiated during a period of higher commodity prices and now those have dropped much lower. National Association Of Wheat Growers CEO Chandler Goule says his group opposes opening the farm bill but doing a revamp may not be a bad idea.
He says NAWG is presently asking its members for input as to what they want in the new farm bill.
Goule says he expects a heavy attack on the federal crop insurance program by environmental groups and others opposed to the farm bill.
He says NAWG members he’s talked to in Nebraska, North Carolina and Oklahoma are in favor of having the present farm bill extended with some tweaks but have not said anything about revamping the legislation.
