The National Association of Wheat Growers is voicing concern over the budget proposal put forth by President Donald Trump for FY 2021. NAWG President Ben Scholz says their primary concern is the cuts called for in crop insurance.

He says they are pleased however the President’s budget plan calls for fully funding the Market Access Program or MAP at $200 million and the Foreign Market Development Program at $35 million. He says those programs are needed to create access to new markets. Scholz says trade is critical for America’s wheat growers.

Scholz says it’s positive the Trump administration has been working on creating new markets and it’s very encouraging they’re looking at the African nation of Kenya as a possible future trade opportunity.

Scholz says another concern with the President’s budget proposal is cuts called for to discretionary programs which mean reductions to key research programs for growers.
