The condition of the Wheat crop across the United States varies as NAWG CEO Chandler Goule is discovering as he’s looking at it firsthand. This week he’s taking part in the Wheat Quality Council’s Spring Wheat tour in North Dakota and Northern South Dakota. Goule says drought has impacted North Dakota’s crop and wheat has also been hurt in the Western United States.
He says winter wheat in Kansas was looking fairly good but the story was different further south in Texas and variable in Oklahoma. Goule says overall the wheat yield will be down from past years.
The House Agriculture Committee on Tuesday marked up the 2020 WHIP Plus Reauthorization Act which calls for authorizing $8.5 billion in disaster aid. Goule says he’s glad they’ve moved that forward and that they submitted comments on some needed changes in WHIP Plus.
Goule is also pleased the WHIP Plus legislation has improvements in it including the trigger for drought assistance.
