The Senate Agriculture Appropriations Committee has advanced the nearly $26 billion fiscal year 2022 legislation for the Agriculture Department. Included in that is $ 7 billion in disaster aid. National Association of Wheat Grower’s CEO Chandler Goule is pleased that measure is moving forward as the disaster aid is badly needed this year for several crops including wheat. And He’s seen the damage first hand.

He says the appropriations bills in both the Senate and House are very similar and he expects them to get final approval.

Goule says besides the appropriations measures, NAWG is also monitoring some climate and sustainability bills.

The disaster aid called for in the Senate measure will help producers who suffered losses due to drought, hurricanes, wildfires, floods and other qualifying disasters during 2020 and 2021.
