The National Association of Wheat Growers is backing Senator Jerry Moran’s legislation he’s reintroduced to lift the Cuban trade embargo. NAWG CEO Chandler Goule says Cuba is a great potential market for United States wheat. Plus, the embargo has failed, so it’s time open trade with the island nation.

He says other countries are ready to trade with Cuba, so if the U.S. fails to lift the embargo it’s a lost market opportunity.

Goule says the measure has a good chance in the Senate although it’s biggest barrier currently is the tight Congressional schedule.

Goule says what could help advance trade with Cuba is having both the U.S. Trade Representative and new Agriculture Secretary in place.
