The Doppler radar at the National Weather Service office in Sioux Falls has been off line this week for a major upgrade.
Todd Heitkamp says they are changing the way they control the unit, much like radio tuning has changed…..

Heitkamp says they should be able to see more detail in rain clouds…..

Heitkamp says while the radar was installed in 1994, they are able to continually upgrade it…..

This is part of a process to improve weather radars across the country.
Heitkamp says their radar should be back on late this week.
