The tornado that struck Delmont on Sunday morning is a reminder of the dangers of the season.
Todd Heitkamp, warning coordination meteorologist for the National Weather Service in Sioux Falls says people in that area were warned before the tornado swept through.
Heitkamp, who surveyed the damaged area, rated the tornado as an EF-2 on the scale of one to five. That meant wind speeds of at least one hundred thirty miles per hour.
Heitkamp says we are approaching the most active time of year for severe weather.
Over eighty structures in Delmont were either destroyed or damaged by the tornado.
