The National Waterways Foundation has just released profiles for 17 inland, coastal states including Iowa and Minnesota. The study was an update on what the U.S. Chamber of Commerce had done seven years ago. Waterways Foundation Secretary and Waterways Council Senior Vice President Deb Calhoun says these profiles show the importance of those inland waterways to the nation’s economy.

She says the information contained in these profiles will provide an important resource for state and federal policymakers as they look at ways to improve the infrastructure for both states and the nation.

Calhoun says agricultural products make up a major part of what flows on the inland waterways and this report brings that out.

Calhoun says the Foundation’s profiles shows that inland waterways have benefited Iowa’s economy to the tune of 101,000 jobs and also provided $497 million in state tax revenue.
