The National Pork Board is releasing a new sustainability report for pork producers to use on their own farms which sets a benchmark for improvements. National Pork Board Senior Vice President of Sustainability Dr. Brett Kaysen says what makes this study unique is it shows the carbon footprint of their operation and the practices that will help them lower it going forward.
Within the next month the industry will also be releasing sustainability goals and metrics.
Kaysen says at some point pig farmers may be able to provide a sustainability label for consumers and may even get paid a premium for those practices.
