The National Pork Board is allocating another $650,000 for research in the fight against the Porcine Epidemic Diarrhea Virus.  Minnesota producer and Board President Karen Richter says the board approved the supplement because P-E-D-V is one of the most devastating diseases pork producers have faced in decades.

PEDV has resulted in the loss of more five million piglets the last several months, with 1.3 million in January alone.  Researchers are working on a vaccine for the disease.  However, Pork Board member and South Dakota producer Brad Greenway says until then biosecurity is their only defense.

The National Pork Producers Council, American Association of Swine Veterinarians and the National Grain and Feed Association are also working with the Pork Board to fight the P-E-D virus.
