National Pork Board leaders just returned from a 12-day trade mission to Japan and China. Those two countries represent the number two and three market for U.S. pork. National Pork Board President and Nebraska producer Terry O’Neel was on the trip and says both countries hold a lot of promise for more U.S. pork business. He says Japan prefers U.S. chilled pork.
He says while in Japan, they met in Tokyo with 800 meat buyers. O’Neel also says even though China produces a lot of its own pork, they are still a lucrative market for U.S. pork, mostly variety meats.
O’Neel says the key to being successful in selling pork to Japan and China is in building relationships.
He says besides building those relationships it’s important in having a safe, dependable, high quality product that is presented well to the buyer.
