The National Pork Board met last week and is now one step closer to finalizing their 2015 budget. Pork Board member and Mitchell, South Dakota producer Brad Greenway says their proposed budget is a million dollars higher than this year’s. He says they put more money in and shifted some around to deal with tough diseases like P-E-D virus.
Greenway says P-E-D isn’t the only disease producers are dealing with and need to be managed.
He says the Board is also proposing to add funding to increase international marketing efforts because 27 percent of pork produced in the U.S. is exported.
Greenway says they’ll meet again in November to put the finishing touches on the 2015 budget.
