Wisconsin Congressman Ron Kind has introduced the Codifying Useful Regulatory Definitions Act or CURD bill. The measure would create a formal definition of natural cheese to ensure consumers are fully informed when purchasing cheese. National Milk Producers Federation Vice President of Government Relations Paul Bleiberg says the CURD Act is a helpful piece of legislation for dairy producers and the dairy industry.

He says the bill calls for that formal definition that will help consumers understand what they’re getting when they purchase cheese.

Bleiberg says the legislation clears up any misunderstanding consumers may have and preserves the dairy industry’s ability to use the term to describe cheese made naturally from fresh milk and dairy ingredients.

The CURD Act has bipartisan support in the House.
