National Milk Producer Federation members are hoping the House may take another stab at passing immigration reform legislation. Federation’s Chris Galen says there’s a possibility they may pass a limited reform measure that specifically addresses the need for guest workers and a visa program for farm employers.

He says there’s a great need for farm labor for all aspects of agriculture and not just dairy.

Galen is hopeful the measure will come up in the next couple of weeks although it will be a challenge given the time constraints Congress is under. He says they’re having to deal with a new farm bill as well as confirming a new Supreme Court nominee not to mention the contentiousness of immigration reform.

Galen says Congress is on break during August so the best opportunity to get immigration reform addressed may be sometime in September.
