House Judiciary Committee Chair Zoe Lofgren of California is sponsoring an immigration reform bill that will be introduced in the House this week. It’s called the Farm Workforce Modernization Bill. National Milk Producers Federation’s Vice President of Government Relations Paul Bleiberg says it’s a good introductory step to achieving immigration reform that includes a guest worker program for immigrant laborers, including those in the dairy industry.

He says having a legal pathway for immigrants who labor year round such as those who work on dairies is badly needed and this bill provides that.

Bleiberg says the measure has support from both sides of the aisle which should help get it passed.

Bleiberg says it helps that several agricultural groups have joined National Milk Producers Federation in the past in seeking immigration reform legislation.
