This week, the National Milk Producers Federation sent a letter to the USDA thanking them for their timely responses to the coronavirus. In their letter, the Federation also is asking the USDA for assistance for dairy producers to whether the COVID 19 crisis. Federation’s Alan Bjerga says one thing the Ag Department could do is reopen the Dairy Margin Coverage program.

He says another step the USDA could take is to purchase additional dairy products.

Bjerga says the Ag Department could also look at putting in force programs to help dairy producers if they’re forced to dump milk.

Bjerga says Congress and the Trump Administration has already helped dairy producers by approving food purchases, and offering flexibility in transportation rules.
