National Milk Producers Against Mandated GMO Labeling

The National Milk Producers Federation is opposing proposed national legislation to mandate GMO or Biotech labeling. They’re also opposed to piecemeal state standards. Federation’s Chris Galen says they prefer a national standard that’s voluntary. He says requiring national labels will be costly for both producers and consumers.

Galen says his group supports Kansas Representative Mike Pompeo’s measure that would create national voluntary biotech labeling standards.

Galen says the problem with national mandated labeling rules is that it would drive up the cost of food while not providing any meaningful safety or protective benefits for consumers.
