National Milk Group Expects Dairy Policy To Pass

House Speaker John Boehner says the farm bill conference report will not include supply management provisions for the dairy program. National Milk Producer Federation’s Chris Galen says the Speaker’s dislike for dairy programs continues and despite what he says new farm legislation is needed.

Galen says there really is not much of a choice for lawmakers. He says it comes down to approving a new dairy program or going back to permanent law which is more disruptive and contains a higher level of government intervention.

While lawmakers seem to have come together on a compromise on supplemental nutrition assistance program cuts in the farm bill, conflicts still remain on dairy and payment limitations.
