Weekly honors in the Missouri Valley Football Conference have progressed to national honors for players from South Dakota State and South Dakota.
South Dakota State quarterback Taryn Christion was named STATS FCS National Offensive Player of the Week on Monday after helping lead the Jackrabbits to their come-from-behind victory at top-ranked North Dakota State last week.
A sophomore from Sioux Falls, Christion accounted for 444 yards of total offense (303 passing, career-high 141 rushing) in the win over the Bison. He became the first Jackrabbit quarterback in 28 years to pass and rush for more than 100 yards in the same game.
South Dakota senior kicker Miles Bergner has been named the STATS FCS National Special Teams Player of the Week for the period ended Oct. 15 as announced Monday. The accolade comes in addition to the Missouri Valley Football Conference honor announced yesterday.
Bergner came in clutch for the Coyotes, scoring a pair of overtime field goals in the 33-30 double-overtime victory at Indiana State on Saturday. In the first six games of the season, Bergner has made four overtime field goals for South Dakota.
