National Grain and Feed Association officials say that drastically increasing the Conservation Reserve Program could result in negative climate impacts. NGFA President and CEO Mike Seyfert says it will hurt the U.S. to take large tracts of land out of production it will make the U.S. less competitive for export markets with our foreign neighbors.
He says the best way to have a positive impact on the climate is through the working lands programs which contains good conservation policy and yet keeps land in production.
Seyfert says 26 percent of the land currently enrolled in CRP should be put into production.
Seyfert says as far as the administration’s 30 by 30 plan and its impact on the climate, that remains to be seen as more details need to be unveiled.
