President Biden’s Executive order issued last Friday dealt with improving competition for both businesses and agriculture. One of the key provisions in the order backed by the National Grain and Feed Association is that on ‘’Competitive Switching”. NGFA President and CEO Mike Seyfert says that should help in keeping monopolies from dominating rail shipping rates.

He says better competition with rail service is badly needed and improving that will make a major difference for the economic well being of all of agriculture.

Seyfert says while the Executive Order is a good first step, the next step is to get the Surface Transportation Board to act on that.

Seyfert says any area of the country dependent on rail service should benefit from the Executive Order provision on Competitive Switching and those in the Northern Plains certainly fit into that.
