The Senate Agriculture Committee has advanced the nomination of Rostin Benham as Chairman and Commissioner of the Commodity Futures Trading Commission. National Grain and Feed Association’s Vice President, Treasurer and Chief Economist Max Fisher says NGFA supports Benhams’s nomination and says his prior experience serving on the CFTC will be helpful if he’s confirmed by the full Senate.

He says the CFTC already has great agricultural representation on the panel with the two members there. That coupled with Benham’s positive knowledge of agriculture will be helpful going forward should he get full confirmation.

Fisher says the good news is that most of the ag issues with the CFTC have already been handled although there are some interesting discussions coming up including rules regarding digital currency and possibly some climate change rules.

Benham had been nominated to the CFTC in July of 2017 by then President Donald Trump and served as Acting Chairman of the panel.
