National Farmers Union Wants Congress to Fix Ag Concentration

Following a Senate Judiciary Committee hearing this week looking at agricultural concentration and large ag company mergers, the National Farmers Union is asking Congress to hold more hearings and pass legislation to curb the trend of consolidation. NFU President Roger Johnson says Congress needs to step in quickly before more antitrust situations and monopolies occur.

He says federal agencies also need to do more to block mega agricultural company mergers.

Johnson says most of the ag company mergers that have occurred lately haven’t been a benefit to farmers.

Johnson says there have been a series of judicial reviews and administrative actions that have weakened the ability to stop some mega ag mergers.
