National Farmers Union Wants Changes in TPP Deal

National Farmers Union officials have several concerns with the just concluded Trans Pacific Partnership Agreement. NFU President Roger Johnson says their primary concern is that there’s no meaningful language in the deal that addresses the problem of currency manipulation. He says many members of Congress wanted that issue dealt with in the agreement.

He says the trade deficit, loss of jobs and falling gross domestic product will continue until the currency manipulation issue is solved.

Johnson says while his group is waiting to see details of the TPP agreement, he’s confident there are some positives in it such as tariff reductions or market access achievements. However, he says those are erased as long as currency manipulation is allowed to continue.
